A word from the President

Hello IMAs,

Hope you enjoyed the snow!

Christmas count-down has started and with the festive spirit we come with our newsletter as the third activity for this quarter. The theme of this newsletter is sharing, few Board members will share highlights of their experience so far on the Board, chapter updates and articles. We also have Andy Logan sharing thoughts about Brexit.

Sharing highlights of the UK chapter with you, we have grown literally from zero to 139 UK Chapter members since our official set-up last fiscal year (FY16/17). This growth shows the passion of the UK members and the Board to add value to the profession in the UK through sharing experience and knowledge. It is such a pleasure working with the team, the commitment and enthusiasm is one of a kind. The Chapter also had the honour of representing the IMA receiving “2017 Professional Body of the Year” award in London on 4th of October 2017, The Accountant/International Accounting Bulletin Awards 2017.

Since the start of the fiscal year we had 6 activities so far including our first semi-annual face-to-face UK Chapter event. It was great meeting UK members in a full day event and having Jeffrey C. Thomson, CMA®, CAE, IMA President and CEO as the main speaker. The event was sponsored by Wiley where we had the privilege of having both Aziz Tayyebi, Wiley’s International Development Director and Andy Logan, Wiley’s Sales Specialist attending. Andy delivered a great presentation about career planning and Brexit and Chris Allen, UK IMA Communication Director, spoke about progressing career and making an impact. Other guests who flew in for the event included Jim Gurowka, Senior Vice President, IMA Global Business Development and Nina Michels, IMA Director of European Operations.

This quarter we alsohad Patrick J. Stroh in the insightful “Innovation Value Executive Primer” Webinar. It is a privilege for the UK Chapter and the US Joplin Tri-state Chapter to deliver the first Institute of Management Accountants UK-US joint event to members – it was a pleasure working with Jim Williams and the US team!

We have a couple of important events in the pipeline for next quarter, watch your emails for more details on January's special members event, newsletter in February and our second annual face-to-face conference taking place in London March 2018.  Tell us what is it you would like from the event, we would like to make sure we are continuously supporting your career.

I would love to hear more about your thoughts and suggestions, please feel free to email me on ima.uk@outlook.com.

Merry Christmas, have a great festive break and best wishes for 2018!
